Honeymoon Guide: Exploring the Island of Curacao: Underwater
Let me just start out by saying this: if I am going to go on a tropical vacation, the water had better be warm, and there better be good snorkeling. Snorkeling is probably the most relaxing thing in the world. Curacao’s turquoise waters have excellent visibility and wonderful reefs, which is why it is a very popular destination for snorkel and scuba lovers. Going in January, I wasn’t so sure that the water temperature would be warm enough for my cold-natured self, but let me tell you, it was! We stayed out in that water for hours every day, and it was perfect. While in the water, we explored sunken ships and swam with squid, sea turtles, crabs, all kinds of eels, lionfish, anemones, and more colorful fish than I can name. It was just breathtaking.
Besides snorkeling and scuba diving, there were plenty of other cool things to do on the water. We went sea kayaking to an amazing swim-in cave called the blue room, and took a sunset catamaran cruise around the island. Oh, and then there was that time that we jumped off a 40 ft cliff into the ocean. That looked a lot less scary than it was and I am never EVER doing anything like that again. Once you are in the air, and there is no turning back, you realize that you should never jump off anything that high. I felt like I was in the air for a whole minute and then smacked my butt so hard on the water it bruised. Not cool. But its a good story, and I think I proved to everyone on that cliff that I am actually not a wimp. Mission accomplished.
