Mountain Biking Devil’s Bridge | Arizona
As you might have noticed, I toted my Surly mountain bike all the way from North Carolina for this trip. We got to use them a handful of times and it was fun. Neither of us had ever mountain biked in the desert before though, so we were pretty excited to try that out. Sedona has TONS of trails. They are all over the place. Some are technical, some follow ATV routes and are a little easier to navigate. I’m a distance rider more than a technical rider, so I was happy to find those ATV paths.
I had seen images of the Devils Bridge online, so that was on my must-see list for Sedona. The day we headed out there was once again sunny and warm. The area was pretty popular and crowded, but there was still plenty of space to get away on our own. We followed a path down to the Devil’s Bridge (there are actually a couple different paths- so we followed the ATV route). The hiking access was supposed to be right up the road- but the sign is small and some people were blocking it as we rode up the trail- so we missed it! We kept riding for a couple miles until we were getting too far from the rocky ledges and figured we should turn around.
This time, we saw the trail head on the side. We locked up our bikes and hiked up to the Devil’s Bridge to catch the last of our light. My friend walked out right onto the bridge- people say its wider than it looks, but I’m a bit clumsy and wouldn’t put it past myself to trip on my own two feet out there, so I just took pictures. :)
We made it just in time to catch the last of the sunshine and head down the trail for the sunset. We were covered in red dust by the end of our ride, but it was a really fun adventure!
