Sarah + Caleb | Hanging Rock State Park Engagement

Sarah and Caleb are awesome! These two are adventurous, outdoorsy, and totally laid back. Sarah and Caleb are planning a wedding for this August, and wanted their engagement session to reflect their love of the outdoors. Josh and I did a little happy dance when they told us they wanted to go to Hanging Rock State Park for their photos. Hanging Rock is only about two hours from Raleigh, but gives the feel of the mountains that you would normally have to drive all the way to Asheville for. In other words, a perfect place for an adventurous engagement photographer. We’ve hiked here many times and have always wanted to photograph a couple on the rocks. Well today, our wish finally came true! We hiked around the park with Sarah and Caleb, showing them our favorite spots and stopping frequently to take pictures. Being July in North Carolina, the weather was hot, and these two had no problem getting right under a waterfall to cool off. That mountain water is so icy cold and refreshing! And I think we can agree that these photos make for an awesome session. :)
Feeling fully refreshed (maybe even a little chilly) Sarah and Caleb dried off and headed up to the tip of hanging rock with us. The hike wasn’t too long, but it was pretty steep, and these two were total troopers about it. But no matter how much we had to sweat getting up the mountain, it was totally worth it! We got to the tip of Hanging Rock just as the sun started to set. This spot is full of overhanging cliffs, mountain views, and steep drops. I didn’t want to look down, but Sarah and Caleb were completely unfazed. It was like no one was there except themselves. We just love this location (and these photos!).
