Mercy + Femi | Traditional Nigerian Wedding
When Mercy and Femi contacted us to be their wedding photographers we were thrilled at the opportunity to photograph an event so unique. We had no idea that it would also be one of the most colorful and elaborate weddings we have ever photographed. The couple chose to host their wedding at the Barclay Villa in Angier, NC situated about 45 minutes outside of Raleigh. This venue was the perfect choice for a celebration full of ornate decorations and elaborate rituals. Much of Mercy and Femi’s guests traveled all the way from Nigeria, and the day started out with a traditional African ceremony. We were in love with the colorful beads, exotic fabrics, and unique wedding customs. The ceremony even involved a dowry of yams and an inheritance just as it would be done in Nigeria. However, for Mercy and Femi, one ceremony just wasn’t enough. The couple also said their vows during a traditional Christian ceremony in front of the Barclay Villa’s outdoor gazebo. Then, rather than smooching and running down the aisle, the newlyweds hugged and danced their way to their reception. Once there, they danced even more, being showered by gifts from their guests. And so the night continued on with one big happy celebration. Mercy and Femi, we are so happy to have been able to experience your beautiful wedding. I know you two have a lifetime of happiness ahead of you! ~ Josh and Shelley, Raleigh Ethnic Wedding Photographers
