During our time in the Humboldt Redwoods, we decided to take it easy for a day or two and do some of the more touristy trails. We drove along the Avenue of Giants and hiked at a pull over to a view of the Eel River. We also hiked around and saw the Dyerville Giant – a humongous fallen redwood in the park. The Dyerville Giant was so huge that it registered on a local seismograph when it fell. There is just no way its enormity can be captured on film. I’d hate to be in the path of a falling redwood!

After finishing this short trail, we hopped back into our car to continue along the Avenue of Giants. We drove through a couple cute little towns in the forest and passed all kinds of corny places – the One Log Home, Eternal Treehouse, Immortal Tree, Big Foot Shop, etc. However, my friend really wanted to try one of those drive through redwoods.

I honestly thought we were going to get stuck. Even though Josh got out and measured it, the tree opening was so uneven I thought there was no way we’d make it. Our roof rack did rub against the bottom for a second, but somehow (thankfully!) we made it. My friend even had enough room to wiggle out of the window and get some shots. Phew! I’m glad our truck made it. Even though kitchy, it is kinda cool.
