Hiking Linville Gorge | North Carolina
Back in the day when I ran an outdoors group, I had the chance to visit many places across North Carolina. I had been to the Linville Gorge, Grandfather Mountain, and all around Boone and Asheville. Its been very fun re-exploring these spots many years later. It has been much too long since I’ve hiked the Linville Gorge. Now that I have a better eye for photography, its been a lot more fun visiting and photographing these spots.
We started out our hike in Linville to take a peek at the upper falls. Its a very short hike, but still interesting enough. This is also the top of the Linville lower falls. You can see the water rushing down powerfully through the canyon. Such a force of nature! After getting a few shots, we wanted to have a look at the lower falls, so we continued hiking on to Erwin’s View. Erwins View is a further elevated point that lets you look down into the gorge. The lower Linville falls can be seen crashing down in the middle and it gives a great perspective of the vastness of the canyon.
After seeing this beauty from afar, we decided it was finally time to hike down into the gorge to see the Lower Falls up close. The Linville Gorge Hike is so pretty. Its not too long and goes through tunnels of rhododendron. There are spots that follow giant cliffs, making the hike itself pretty interesting. Then you come out at the bottom for a few rock hops and easy scrambles and find yourself right at the base of the falls.
Migo wasn’t too impressed, but we had fun hiking around and taking pictures. After a bit, we hiked on back to the car to catch dinner. Love this area so much.
