Windy Day at Dungeness Spit | Washington
Dungeness Spit is located on the Olympic Peninsula in the town of Sequim. Its a small park that juts far out into the bay. Actually, I say its small, but there is a fair amount of hiking available here. There is a lighthouse at the very tip of Dungeness Spit you can hike to . It’s 10 miles round trip over sand and driftwood.
Dungeness Spit is pretty. We actually ended up coming here because we had it confused with another place we had wanted to visit called Salt Creek Recreation area, but we are very glad we came (we’ll be doing a post on that other location later). The beach area here is absolutely covered in driftwood. And I’m not talking small twigs or anything. We’re talking whole tree trunks piled on top of each other. You really get a sense for the power of the sea when you see it. Josh climbed up some of the tree roots to get a higher vantage point and got some really cool shots. While we were on Dungeness Spit, we could see storm clouds roll into the mountains of Sequim, but we stayed sunny and dry. That was definitely fun to watch.
While the weather on the point was good, the wind was incredible. I am originally from Chicago, so we love a little bit of wind.
We walked down along the cliffs of the beach until the tide started coming up and then turned around to spend some time enjoying the little town of Port Angelos. It was our first sunny day since we came to the Olympic Peninsula and it was a good one!
