Squamish, British Columbia Guide | Honeymoon & Wedding Destination

This place is just unreal! Giant mountains, towering trees, low hanging clouds, eclectic little buildings, and crystal clear waters. I’m finding myself a bit obsessed with the town of Squamish. I first came out to Canada to visit Vancouver with my friend Jennifer Waller to do a shoot for her makeup and skin care line, Celtic Complexion. Jennifer is based out of Raleigh, but she wanted to do the shoot in a location that would give an ethereal vibe to her pictures. While I can’t show you all the photos from our shoot just yet (prepare yourselves for a big press release!) I can tell you that the pics turned out AWESOME! If you haven’t already aquatinted yourselves with Celtic Complexion, you should definitely check it out as she is going to be big time very soon!

I first learned about Squamish through a local, and took it as a good sign that I had never heard of this town before. Squamish is known locally as the “Recreation Capitol of Canada.” There is rock climbing, boating, hiking, sailing, even a gondola that takes you up to the tippy top of a giant mountain. Just the drive getting to Squamish was an adventure in itself. I drove Canada’s Highway 99 that hugs the mountains overlooking the bay. Driving through the clouds, I found my jaw dropping at every turn. I stopped so many times to take pictures I thought I would never make it there by dusk. There are parks all along the way including Porteau Cove Provincial Park, Shannon Falls, and Brittania Beach. Every stop was even more breathtaking than the last.

I’m a bit envious of the people who live in Squamish. They get to wake up every day to this awe-inspiring and peaceful scenery. And the pace of life out here is just so peaceful. I could spend all my days drinking Canadianos at the Zephyr Cafe and walking along the glassy bays. Needless to say, I am already aching to go back. If you know anyone who might be getting married out here or in Whistler who might be needing a wedding photographer, that would be a dream come true. Until then, I suppose I will just be revisiting through my photos. ~Shelley Hartman, Whistler + Squamish Destination Wedding Photographer.
