A Couple's Session at all the Best Spots in Acadia National Park
Oh how adorable is Bar Harbor?!?! I photographed Hannah and Greg's wedding a few years ago. So, to celebrate their anniversary, they decided to take a trip to Maine and hire me to take some pictures in Acadia National Park. This session was in the peak of fall and the weather was perfect!
Visiting Bar Harbor, Maine
In case you haven't been, Bar Harbor, is a coastal town in Maine right at the entrance to Acadia National Park. The town is absolutely adorable! First of all, it's full of sweet bed and breakfasts. Second, there's a quaint little downtown area full of restaurants (and fresh lobster of course!). And then, of course, there is the gorgeous coastline overlooking the bay and surrounding islands.
An Adorable New England Town Right Next to Acadia
Additionally, the fact that this adorable town is right next to one of the most beautiful national parks in America is just icing on the cake. Acadia is also one of the smaller parks, just to mention. There is one main loop that you can drive which takes you past all the areas of the park. This loop will take you around the scenic rocky coastline, down the tree-lined winding roads, and up the mountain a bit. Being there in the autumn, I really loved the beautiful fall colors.
Easy Navigating Around the Park
During our engagement session, we took pictures around the entire park. First, we drove around the loop, stopping at the raging ocean. Then, continuing on the loop, we stopped at Jordan Pond. We then made a few other random stops before heading up to Cadillac Mountain.
Cadillac Mountain - A Gorgeous Spot for Wedding Photography or Couples Sessions
Funnily enough, at first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to Cadillac Mountain. The other pictures I saw didn't do it justice. Plus, all the information told me that this was the most crowded spot in the park. It's actually so popular that you need to get a permit in order to be able to watch the sunrise or sunset up there. However, once we got to the top, I was SO glad that we went there. The long range views of the ocean below, and the rocky natural areas were just gorgeous. I would definitely go back to Cadillac Mountain for wedding or engagement photographs.
Enjoying Sunset at the Bass Harbor Lighthouse
To finish out the session, we went to enjoy the sunset at the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. I had scouted this area out the night before, so I know it would be great. Also worth mentioning, the Bass Harbor Lighthouse is part of Acadia, however, it is in a separate section. The main part of the park, with the main loop are in a separate section of the park. So, if you plan to go here, just allow a little extra time for driving.
Prep for Extra Time and Walking when Photographing at the Bass Lighthouse
Also, I recommend allowing extra time for parking and walking. Because the parking lot is very small and completely filled up. We had to park way up the road and take a 20 minute walk in. But even the road parking runs out, so just get there early. However, as you can see, this spot is worth the hype. There were dozens of photographers taking pictures with their tripods. And the lighthouse is perfectly situated to enjoy the sunset while gazing at the view.
Such a Treat to Capture Love in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park
I'm so happy to have been able to explore the beauty of Bar Harbor and Acadia with Hannah and Greg. It was a joy to be their wedding photographer, and it was even more fun to be able to hang out and catch up with them years later. At the end of the night, we met up on the porch of their Bed and Breakfast for a glass of wine and some laughs.
