Point Reyes Shipwreck + Lighthouse | California
In the time that I was in Point Reyes, we had been hearing a lot about this shipwreck. Something about a fire and the fact that this local monument had to be dismantled and removed. Later we heard that it was actually a group of photographers who destroyed this beautiful relic while trying out some pyro photo effects. What a shame. I’m happy we were able to enjoy this sight- even if not for long.
On this day, my friend was kind of feeling like a homebody, so I decided to head out by myself for the day. Two things on my local bucket list were seeing the shipwreck, and also seeing the Point Reyes Lighthouse. So Migo hopped in the car with me and we went for a little ride. The little town near the shipwreck was sunny and warm. I loved looking at the rental homes on stilts over the water (seriously- can we please photograph a wedding at one of these?!) . However, continuing on to the lighthouse, the weather totally changed. Suddenly it turned chilly and foggy. The road to the lighthouse was long, so I kept telling myself it might clear up enough to still get a good view. But that never happened. I drove all the way to the parking lot in pea soup fog, hiked the little trail, and saw nothing but more fog. There were plenty of deer grazing off the hills, and I loved the mystery the fog added to the landscape. Still not a total loss in my book. I enjoyed the flora and fauna, and then headed back down to the sunny valley to catch the afternoon with my friend.
